Charles Dickens published A Christmas Carol in December 1843, and the story quickly became a cultural phenomenon. Within weeks, theatrical adaptations were appearing on London stages, beginning a performance tradition that has continued for more than 180 years with its unforgettable characters and enduring themes of compassion, generosity, and redemption.
