ABOUT THE PLAY
Inspired by the memoir of Maria von Trapp, The Sound of Music was the final collaboration between Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II. The musical opened on Broadway in 1959 starring Mary Martin and Theodore Bikel, ran for 1,443 performances, and won five Tony Awards, including Best Musical making The Sound of Music one of the most enduring works in musical theatre.
